Join conservator Claire Winfield to learn more about managing light in your collections.
Light exposure is an inherent balance between preservation and accessibility for your collection, so it's important to take a nuanced and informed approach.
We'll talk about different forms of light and radiation, the impacts they have on your collection materials, how to manage the exposure of your objects, and what to think about when choosing light sources or making changes to your systems.
Claire Winfield is a painting conservator and Head of Growth at Conserv, an environmental monitoring platform focused on the unique needs of collections. Prior to joining Conserv, Claire spearheaded light monitoring efforts at the Saint Louis Art Museum with a focus on a newly-built, daylit wing for special exhibition and permanent galleries. Her work included evaluating projections from lighting designers, establishing light monitoring protocols and the use of cumulative exposure models for recordkeeping and evaluation, incorporating cumulative models into the museum's CMS, and recommending building and protocol modifications to support preservation efforts. Claire has over 10 years of benchwork conservation experience from private practice, regional center, and museums including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
